Masaccio (born December 21, 1401 – died 1428) was an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance, renowned for revolutionizing art with his use of linear perspective, realistic anatomy, and naturalistic light.
Born Tommaso di Ser Giovanni di Simone in San Giovanni Valdarno, Tuscany, Masaccio brought a new depth and realism to painting, breaking away from the Gothic style that preceded him.
His most famous works include the frescoes in the Brancacci Chapel, such as The Tribute Money and The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden, which profoundly influenced generations of artists.
Though his career was tragically short, Masaccio's innovations in perspective and chiaroscuro helped lay the foundation for Renaissance art.
