Neil Armstrong (born August 5, 1930 – died August 25, 2012) was an American astronaut, aeronautical engineer, and naval aviator. He became the first human to set foot on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969, uttering the famous words, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
Born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, Armstrong developed a passion for aviation early in life. He served as a naval pilot in the Korean War and later joined NASA's astronaut program. His calm demeanor and technical skill made him a key figure in the space race.
